Despite certain reports to the contrary, the UK is still in an economic recession. The word can cause enormous panic and many businesses cut "non-essential" spending to a bare minimum in a hope to ride the storm.

But including marketing in the cuts does not make sense. When times are tough - you have to fight harder to get the business that is out there. And research shows that those companies who spend more on marketing during economic downturns actually fare much better in the long term.
