Telemarketing Top Tips
When using the telephone as part of a marketing campaign, follow these telemarketing top tips to enhance your success.... - Be extremely courteous, even if you get a rude response, and don’t be over-familiar.
- Make sure you are speaking to the decision maker before starting your pitch.
- Look to engage the customer with a friendly introduction and make them feel unique, not just one of a very large database.
- See secretaries or receptionists as an ally not an enemy. Give them information, treat them with respect. By enlisting them as a resource you are far more likely to get through to decision maker.
- Set a time limit and ask at the beginning of the call if the prospect can spare the required time, say five minutes, to talk.
- Do not read a prepared script like a robot, make it sound natural.
- Keep it simple and to the point. Time is money, both for you and your potential customer.
- Refer to other marketing materials at the start of the call (letter, press coverage, advertising...)
- Ask questions and make notes during the conversation to ensure that you pick up on everything the prospect is saying, without interrupting.
- Listen to the Customer. If the customer indicates that they are genuinely not interested, accept this and thank them for their time. Don’t be pushy.
- Be consistent, confident and direct. Believe in what you are saying – otherwise your prospective client certainly won’t!
- Welcome objections – these are valuable to understanding your market, and can be turned into a positive.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for a commitment one way or another. A no today is far better than a no down the line when you’ve spent more direct marketing money on them!
- Give a contact number and address for future reference.
